Samsung Yepp YP-P3 media player with haptic touch launched in Korea
Samsung released their latest media player, the Yepp YP-P3, in Korea. Thanks to its 3-inch, 480x272 touch screen with haptic feedback and an improved UI, it not only plays music, but also flash files, videos, eBooks, and so on. It uses a Flash-based interface and supports playing Flash games on top of its normal media player functions, which continue to include H.264, MPEG-4 and WMV for video and support AAC, FLAC, MP3, Ogg and WMA for music. Bluetooth 2.1, an FM radio and voice recording also round out the device. The device features a 30h battery lifespan, and Bluetooth 2.1 support for wireless headphones. The Yepp YP-P3 switches from plastic to aluminum on the outside but is notable most for internal changes borrowed from its cellphones; the new model provides haptic (vibration) feedback for interface presses and has a TouchWiz-like interface that lets users place widgets for memos, clocks and other short info on the home screen.
Samsung will offer the Yepp YP-P3 in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB variants for the equivalents of $180, $211 and $248 respectively. Samsung regularly sells the P2 in the US and is likely to introduce the P3 at or near the Consumer Electronics Show, which starts on January 8.
