Samsung SGH-P200 Worlds First Cellular/WiFi Phone

samsung.jpgSamsung is all set to woo the cell phone market by launching the Samsung P200 which is the world’s first Cellular/Wi-Fi phone or unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) phone in the Italian marketplace. As UMA poses to be the next generation technology standard which allows for seamless handover between cellular networks and fixed IP networks (hot spots), the Samsung P200 is equipped with the ability to freely switch between GSM, GPRS, EDGE and wireless LAN networks (WiFi) for free voice and data communication both in mobile and fixed modes. The phone comes loaded with a 1.3MP camera with flash, a 1.9 262k-color TFT screen and a built-in memory of 80MB. Weighing just 95 grams, Samsung P200 can play video formats like MPEG4 / H.263 along with the music files in MP3, AAC and AAC+ format. Other features include PictBridge, Document viewer and USB connectivity which makes and music and data streaming a drag and drop procedure.

While the existing WiFi phones can be used in limited area, the hotspots precisely, this phone breaks the mobility barriers. With this UMA phone, high-speed large-capacity data communication or VoIP is possible though WiFi in places installed with hot spots such as at home and schools and in places without WiFi, the cellular network is used instead. The launch of the UMa phone will follow in other European countries soon.
