Samsung has taken the term world roaming seriously with the SCH-W579 a dual-mode phone that does tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) and CDMA (800/1900) both. The phone does look a bit unusual and is one of the very few clamshells to feature a touch screen display (240 x 320, 256k TFT). The 96 x 64 pixels 65k external display is large enough to display the number and other details. The phone has a 2 Megapixel camera with LED flash and support for video recording. The camera has an OCR feature just like your office scanner so just click on a business card, the phone will read the text of it using which the contact list etc can be updated. The SCH-W579 has 20 MB of internal memory and most probably a Micro SD / Transflash card slot for memory expansion. Other features include Media player, Bluetooth and Infrared.

Surprisingly this high-tech phone will not be released in Japan or Korea but in China. So the handwriting recognition and OCR feature may also support only Chinese.
