Samsung debuts its first Galaxy S5 commercial at the 86th Academy Awards

Last week when Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress in Spain, we thought the Korean company had got the publicity campaign for its newest flagship all wrong. It was a lackluster curtain raiser for the world’s highest selling Android smartphone’s successor. But Samsung more than made up for the poor start with a 30 second ad segment of the Samsung Galaxy S5 that was shown at the Oscars yesterday. One of the sponsors of the 86th Academy Awards telecast, Samsung aired the first commercial of Galaxy S5 during the star-studded event with close-up images of the device, and words superimposed on the screen that read “Every year we celebrate the biggest and the brightest, the smartest and most innovative. The 5.1″ full HD Samsung Galaxy S5 with built-in heart rate monitor. The Next Big Thing is Here. April 2014.”

And besides the ad, Samsung got some more publicity thanks to the host of the show Ellen DeGeneres who flaunted a Galaxy Note 3 which was later used to capture the stunning ensemble picture that went on to become one of the most re-tweeted pictures ever. By now it has racked up more than 1.2 million re-tweets.
