Robot Roller Skates are smarter than ordinary ones

Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) brought forth their cool new "Unit-type Micro-Mobility" device. Basically, these are aluminum skates that accelerate when the user leans forward. There are poles attached to the skates that have to be grasped, they can also be used by users to roll or step forward. The mechanical composition of the shoes includes a wheel, three accelerometers and gyroscopes. These increase the weight of the skates to 11 pounds. It can reach a maximum speed of up to 2.5 miles per hour. The robotic skates are developed by one Toshinobu Takei from AIST. It was displayed at the 2009 International Robot Exhibition (iRex) in Tokyo.
