Researchers are trying to develop high-power bombs that can disable computers, electronics, vehicles, guided missile systems and telecommunications. But the beauty of the bomb will be that it will not harm humans in any way. Just a total black out of all computerized and electronic defense systems! Researchers at Texas Tech University with US Army funding have built a self powered device measuring 15 cms in diameter and only 1.5 meters in length, making it small enough to be portable. The device is being tested at an arsenal in Huntsville; Alabama should be able to produce a peak power of 35 MW with a pulse length of 100 to 150 nanoseconds, emitting a microwave beam in the 2-6 GHz range. Lab testing on the portable HPM has begun, but the technology is not expected to reach any fields any time soon.
