Though EDY may sound like the Aibo's next avatar it is actually an Electronic payment initiative for the Playstation 3. With EDY you can make purchases on the Playstation store easily using an IC card reader PaSoRi which connects via USB to the PS3. Just insert the prepaid card in the reader and you are good to go. EDY is compatible with PS3 firmware ver 1.5 and up so you need to upgrade first.

Playstation 3 Firmware ver 1.5 will be available for download from tommorow (January 24) in Japan.
