Pininfarina develops B Zero – Their first all electric production car

0810_05z+2009_pininfarina_b0+overhead_view.jpg Pronounced B Zero, this is an electric car from the legendary design house of Pininfarina (whose pen has created the lines of many Ferraris). Anyone thinking it was a concept car can be forgiven, but the company insists that this will go into production. Range is a claimed 153 miles and top speed is said to be 80 mph. It can be recharged from a normal household socket. It will feature solar panels on the hood and roof, to get power when standing idle. The company has even developed a solid-state lithium polymer battery. This battery is able to store power weight-for-weight, and it recharges in just a few hours. The battery does not require any maintenance and has a lifespan of around 200,000 km (125,000 miles). Another key benefit is its unmatched safety while in operation.

The Pininfarina B Zero will start production in Canada, and could progress south. No word yet on the price of this vehicle, the first cars will be available at the end of next year.
