Philips SA1200 DAP
Philips has dropped in SA1200 which is nothing more than a mediocre audio player. so no dynamic sound quality, no support for PlaysForSure, Ogg Vorbis and no high end features offered by the expensive MP3 players. With 512MB and 1GB versions available, the player can handle MP3, WAV and WMA audio formats and its small 32 x 128 pixels LCD screen will show nothing more than which song is playing. It features an integrated mic for audio recordings. A single AAA battery is provides juice for 8 hours of continuous playback. With the built in microphone you can do recording in ADPCM WAV format.
Philips SA1200 weighs 30 grams and goes for a price tag of about $75 with such limited features this price tag is expected.

This tiny mp3 player/recorder has every feature I need for listening and recording live music, albeit in mono. The frequency responce of 30 to 1800 is excellent. The jazz ewqualizer setting seems to give the best sound. Over the ear headphones improve the sound dramatically. With normal intermittant use, the battery can last up to one week. The output is a little weak for use with a powered speaker set but does produc a clear sound. The 512MB capacity is good for 200+ songs.
