Paul Fryer’s chess set made with vacuum tubes looks fantastic
Here’s a great way to bring back the golden days of vacuum tubes, given that they are slimming out in purpose and production. Vacuum tubes were used to build the first computer and scores of other devices before and after it. The problem that they heated up much too quickly was the reason that they were soon put out and replaced my more compact chips. Paul Fryer has come out with a chess set that’s made with vacuum tubes as the pieces. They look simply stunning in the photographs provided thus. The chess board has an internal circuitry that gets the vacuum tube to be more illuminated. It’s a lovely idea put into great use.
The Paul Fryer vacuum tube chess set sure does bring back the nostalgia, but it also makes me wonder as to how hot do these pieces get? There’s no use burning your pockets and your hands on a chess set.
