Optical mice detect counterfeit Euros

mice-sensor.jpg Spanish engineers from the University of Lleida have modified an optical mouse to detect counterfeit 2 Euro coins. To detect counterfeits a coin is placed into a positioning device and rotated. the sensor captures the image and using a complex algorithm determines if the latter is fake or no. The same can be done with a webcam as well but a mice sensor is comparatively cheaper and small in size.
