The Oppo BDP-83 was promoted as a universal player that plays your SACDs, DVDs, as well as your Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs and it will be much less expensive than the only other universal Blu-ray player out there. Nevertheless, initial tests have revealed that the much-hyped player is going to be region locked by default. It seems there are some trade restrictions like the BDA region coding, that do not allow the player to be truly universal.
