Open Peak announces the Open frame platform which use the Intel Atom processor
The traditional VOIP solutions are facing some serious competition from the new 'do everything' mobile phones. In order to bring back some of the VOIP over landlines thunder, Open Peak has launched a new platform called the Open Frame. It enables IP devices running on it to be connected to the home network via a built-in Wi-Fi/Ethernet link, enables consumers to use a single device to access applications such as their family calendar, e-mail, text messaging, synched address book and directory services. The user also has access to news, sports, weather, stock quotes and traffic, as well as the ability to make traditional or VoIP phone calls. Additionally, the device can send calendar reminders and driving directions to the user's mobile; stream and play Internet content such as music, movie trailers and YouTube videos; and preview images or video from digital cameras or camcorders.
The Open Peak IP media phone is powered by the Intel Atom processor, which helped reduce the company's design footprint by 80% over previous three-chip solutions, minimized power requirements, and increased the overall performance of the platform. Offerings utilizing OpenPeak's OpenFrame platform are expected to be launched by the first quarter of 2009.
