NYPD- ZAPS New York with a Vectrix Volt.
In view of the recent environmental awareness bustling around metropolitians, the newyork police dept has now decided to go green on the police bikes. The Department will begin road testing four of the plug-in Vectrix scooters early next month -- part of a broader campaign to make the nation's largest police department a greener one as well. The 36,000-officer NYPD has been looking for ways to retool its massive motor fleet to guzzle less gas and inflict less harm on the environment. A handful of NYPD hybrid cars and so-called flex-fuel vehicles, which can run on both gasoline and ethanol, are already on the road. Some of the NYPD officers are really excited with the electric scooters, because they believe that the scooters' low noise outputs would be a good advantage for them, " You could easily sneak up on somebody if they don't expect it. " said NYPD's Detective, Derek Siconolfi.
A Vectrix electric scooter with a single charge can go as far as 68 miles at 25 mph speed, and has a top speed of 60 mph. The current retail price for a Vectrix electric scooter is around $11,000, which makes it just about one of the most expensive electric scooters out there, but Vectrix is also the first electric scooters manufacturer to be certified by the U.S. government.
