NTT DoCoMo PEFC charger uses water to add juice to phones

NTT DoCoMo has partnered with Aqua Fairy and developed the world's smallest fuel cell which has an output of 2 watts. The charger uses Aqua Fairy's thin film power unit technology and catalyst for producing hydrogen from water. The problem with earlier Methanol based chargers was their large size and less power, however it is not the case with PEFC charger as it is one-fourth the size and is twice more powerful than its Methane counterpart. It pumps out a prototype polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) that rocks 800mAh at 3.6V -- enough juice to recharge your average FOMA handset in the same time as a wall wart.
The NTT DoCoMo PEFC charger will be showcased at Wireless Japan 2006 and go into production next year.
