Nokia closes down London store but has great promise for the new year

Nokia-store.jpg Nokia seems to be taking things quite hard post the whole recession situation and after they only recently displaced almost 300 employees from their R&D division in Finland, they’re latest was seen in the UK where they shut shop on their 7500 square foot, flagship store in London’s Regent Street and before the store even reached it’s two year marker. The reason given was that it just wasn’t doing well, according to sources which mean that the 30 or so employees are out of a job. Things are not looking too good for the Finnish mobile maker, or so it seems.

However, even with all this ‘restructuring’ that the company has undertaken, their latest Capital Markets Day 2009 event highlighted what the company’s intentions were for the coming year and I can honestly say, big things are coming. From a new and seemingly revamped S60 UI to a possible new range of Maemo devices and the reduction of mid-range Series 40 enabled handsets. There’s also been talk that the 2010 devices will be more than capable of taking on the almighty iPhone as the new UI will be designed to be more user friendly from the touch point of view and would also incorporate multi-touch functionality. So like I said, there’s a lot more to come in the new-year, a new-year and hopefully a new Nokia.
