Nokia and Intel spring out an open source surprise called oFono

ofon-artecture.jpg The guys at Google may soon be sweating their glands out with the news of a new open source project by Nokia and Intel. This project is called the oFono project that’s based on Linux. It is said to be able to handle GSM/UMTS networks and also facilitate in calling and SIM card access. Now Android users will really wonder as to what this brand new open source telephony platform may behold, and may feel rather pensive about what they have. Those who want to go in for Android phone may feel like waiting (I do). And even those who were anti-Google from the word go, will look up and take interest.

Well, the oFono platform may be a greater success than what Google’s offering is till date. However, for those who are of the mobile world, the architecture diagram provided is likely to make more sense.
