Nissan GT-R ECU gets cracked and delimited
The Nissan GT-R is one hell of a car, soon to hit the USA it is the most expensive Nissan ever at $80000 - $95000. Powered by a 3.4L V6 with two turbochargers the GT-R rockets from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds giving the Carrera and even the Pagani Zonda a run for their money. With 473 HP under the hood the GT-R can hit a top speed of 193mph (310 kmph) however it is limited to a puny 112mph (180 kmph) by a ‘uncrackable’ speed limiter, which could only be delimited when entering circuits via a GPS link. Nissan did assure customers the encryption on the ECU was very sophisticated and difficult to crack, but U.S.-based COBB tuning has alreadty cracked the speed limiter.
COBB tuning reports it is currently undertaking in-house testing and by the time the GT-R is launched in the US they will be well prepared and practiced in the art of tuning the GT-R’s ECU.
