Nintendo working on launching DSi App Store

nintendo-dsi.jpg At the Nintendo Developer Conference in London this past week the company laid out its plans to vigorously support non-game applications and encouraged third-party developers to create them. The company is putting together the first pieces of the telecom puzzle into starting an App Store-style storefront is in the works—Nintendo is encouraging developers to create shorter-form content that includes non-gaming apps. The device includes access to the DS Shop and DSi Ware, but instead of emphasizing game downloads, Nintendo is encouraging developers to think about making shorter 'applications', both of a game and non-game variety for the DSi.

Nintendo seems all set to turn the DSi Shop into a fully fledged Nintendo DSi app store to take on Apple. Let's just hope that other makers too follow suite and create even cooler content for us to enjoy on our devices.
