Nintendo toys with changing the accelerometer in Wiimote
Going by a report originating from Japan, Nintendo is toying with the idea of changing the accelerometer in Wiimote. Nintendo wants to up the efficiency of the Wiimote and this probably has stemmed this move. STMicroelectronics is the company that that provided that first chip and now more are going to battle it out with it. Chips from companies such as Kionix Inc and Tronics are also being considered. The Wii MotionPlus controller is one aspect of Nintendo and this new development another. The reason behind the lookout could also be from the fact that electronics go redundant within a few years time if not upgraded timely.
So a better, faster, improved and smaller (also cheaper) chip needs to be developed to sustain the creditability of this technology. Here’s looking to an even more efficient Wiimote in the future. Some even say that in three years the chip design will be so advanced that we'll be able to play Wii Bowling with super-small chips in each finger.
