Nintendo DS to get spunky with dual-touchscreen DSi, also "DSi Shop" content store announced

NintendoDS_DSi-shop.jpg Nintendo has announced a "third platform," the DSi, which will probably compliment the current console but not replace it. Almost 12% slimmer than the current console DS Lite, the DSi features dual touchscreen and does away with the GBA cartridge slot. The touchscreens are slightly larger, at 3.25 inches, and it hosts a 3-MP cam as well. There's an SD slot and internal storage and photos can be taken directly to the Wii Photo Channel on the card.

Update - The DSi does not feature dual touchscreens. Video and link to the official DSi website added after the jump.

Nintendo has also announced the launch of an online DSi Shop, which will sell content directly over WiFi, including a free browser app and "DS Ware" game. You will also be able to access it for free at "Nintendo Zone" hotspots, like the Japanese McDonalds. Apparently the store will take Nintendo Points, and 1000 of these come free with the new DSi till March 2010. The content is priced in 0 / 200 / 500 / 800 point brackets. The DSi will launch in Japan for ¥18,900 ($178), around November 1st. it will come in black and white. Rest of the world should expect the console next year.
