It is really difficult for parents with children who are diabetic. It is even scarier when they keep losing their blood glucose meter. Hence Bayer in conjunction with Paul Wessel developed the DIDGET meter. What is so cool about this meter? Well your kid will not lose it. At least that is what the developers are hoping. This blood glucose meter plugs into the Nintendo DS/DS Lite’s Slot-2. Consistent glucose testing by the diabetic kid is rewarded with points in a game that can be used to buy items or unlock levels in a game. But kids owning DSi will be left out since there is no slot for plugging the meter. This idea came into light because Paul Wessel has a kid who has Type 1 diabetes. Paul noticed that his kid was losing the blood glucose meter all the time but managed to find his Nintendo Game Boy. What a kid! That inspired Paul and Bayer to work together to develop the first and only blood glucose meter that connects to the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DS Lite. Excellent out of the box thinking and I think more should come out with such or better or different ideas. Hats off to you guys!
