Next-gen Bluetooth to bring all devices, big and small, together, one big happy family
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has just taken steps to help make the technology even more affordable by adopting Bluetooth low energy wireless technology. This wireless technology has taken on a more universal form by making it possible for manufacturers and developers to create smaller and cheaper devices that will allow us to connect with other devices that aren’t Bluetooth enabled. Of course this also means that lower end handsets and devices would also be able to incorporate Bluetooth technology making communication between devices even more efficient.
With the latest version of Bluetooth Classic devices equipped with teh technology will be able to feature new capabilitie. Bluetooth low energy wireless technology, the hallmark feature of the v4.0 Bluetooth Core Specification, features:
- Ultra-low peak, average and idle mode power consumption
- Ability to run for years on standard coin-cell batteries
- Low cost
- Multi-vendor interoperability
- Enhanced range
It’s all quite exciting actually as device to device communication will become even easier. Can you imagine transferring songs from low budget mobile handset directly to your iPod shuffle? Right on!
