Over the past few weeks Newlaunches and our network of sites were experiencing so called 'rolling blackouts'. A sudden spike in traffic and our server would hang up, this would result in 10 mins of downtime till the server was rebooted. Apart from Slash and Digg effects this started happening frequently during the busy morning hours. Finally we have parted with the old server and bought a shiny new powerhouse from Softlayer which packs in four multicore Intel processors which brings the total to 16 cores, 8GB of ECC RAM and superfast 15,000RPM SCSI hard drive to fetch data asap and run hundreds of SQL queries without breaking sweat.
