Mystery Gameboy Fan Sprays Mario Kart Icons on City Streets

Personally speaking, Mario Kart will always have a special place in my heart. It is the one game I was completely addicted to from the minute of its release. A similarly smitten Mario fan has taken to spray painting Mario Kart graffiti on the roads of Portland, Oregon. The stretch of North Williams Avenue between Tillamook and North Cook Avenues has been sprayed with speed arrows, bananas, stars and mushrooms – icons of the Mario Kart car-racing classic. In the game, run over an arrow or mushroom and you’ll be propelled forward at speed, a banana will send you flying and a star will give you immunity. If only the artist could have imbued his art with similar super powers.

It is unclear who the mystery road painter is, and whether the city will keep the Mario-inspired road art. For now, the symbols are definitely making the cycle to work a little more interesting for the residents of Portland.
