MSI solar powered notebook

After the Solar powered Flash drive it is time for the solar notebook from MSI. It took almost a year to develop the solar notebook. It has a solar panel on the top and can operate on light power for half an hour but it requires the same time to collect that much power. MSI is developing a second generation notebook that will use satellite solar power, which is more effective but also more expensive. This does not mean that you have to sit in the sun to operate it can be used indoor also as it uses light power and not solar power. So it can collect power from your office light also.

The 12-inch first-generation Solar NB costs 55,000 Taiwan dollars (1,700 U.S. dollars). The second-generation Solar NB will cost 80,000 Taiwan dollars (2,500 U.S. dollars) and is expected to be able to operate on light power for at least four hours.

'We want to allow people to use notebook computer when they travel in an aircraft or train, either by relying entirely by light power or using both light power and the battery when the light in plane or train is dim,' said MSI Marketing Manager Chen Chien-hung.
