Microsoft to slash Xbox 360 prices to $299

xbox-360.jpg Microsoft is getting ready to slash the price of Xbox 360 Pro model (20GB hard drive) from $349 to $299. They plan to bring on the change before the E3 trade show but a company spokeswoman said Microsoft has nothing to announce at this time. The last time Microsoft cut prices was in August, when it shot it down to $349 from $399; prior to the release of "Halo 3" in September. The drop to $299 makes the Xbox 360 Pro $100 cheaper than Sony's 40GB PlayStation 3.

Slashes from Nintendo and Sony seem unlikely at the moment. As it is the $249 Wii is still in short supply at many retailers, and Sony plans to spin its video game business profitable this year, making a cut hard to swallow.
