Microsoft showcases Augmented Reality
Microsoft has unveiled a new video display technique known as Augmented Reality. The technology can in real time, superimpose computer-generated information on top of a digitized view of the real world. The approach could add another dimension to future smart phones. Using a database of billions of images, the system is able to work out where you are and give you information back. The initial dataset is slimmed down by using your phone's GPS to determine your location, and then computer vision is used to work out where you are and project your augmented information on top.
Microsoft is using some of the systems behind Photosynth and other MSR projects to build a very smooth system and a rocking new technology.
