German scientists at Helmholtz Zentrum München have found a way to see what’s in side an organism. The team led by Dr. Vasilis Ntziachristos created a technique to form 3-D images of relatively large and thick organisms. To achieve this, the organism is first injected with a dye and scanned using a laser. This dye then responds to the laser and the disruption in the tissue is detected by the ultrasound. The data is then collected and processed to form a 3-D image of the organism. This microscope will bring about a revolution in the world of biology, as it will help a great deal in observing cell and tissue phenomena in different organisms.
