Mexicans to use cell phones to pay stores and taxis
Like the Japanese, Mexicans will soon be able to use their mobile phone for making micro payments such as restaurant meals and taxi rides. Teaming up are telephone operators Telefonica SA and Iusacell along with Citibank and BBVA. The target audience will be tech savvy teenagers and early adopters Cell phone users will be able to have their bank link their savings account to their telephone so they can make payments to participating stores, restaurants and taxis by sending a text message. Most big banks are participating in the service but America Movil's which controls Mexico's two thirds telephone lines is yet to sign up. This trend of micro mobile payments is yet to catch up in the US of A.
