Melody Road in Japan creates music

groove_road.jpg Mr. Shinoda from Japan accidentally cut a road in several places with a digger and then later drove over the damage in his car. He realized that if he created some rows of grooves then drove over them at a certain speed; the road would 'play a tune'! Members of the Hokkaido Industrial Research Institute started carving thousands of very precise grooves into nearby roads and the result ids the 'Melody Road', with grooves that are between 6 and 12mm apart. To sample the musical roads you need to hitch-up to any of the three places, Hokkaido, Wakayama or Gunma in Japan. The optimum musical speed being 28mph in your car. Roll over for the video.
