Medtronic a dashboard mounted device tracks your sugar level
If you are a diabetic, particularly one with an extra sensitivity to insulin, you might soon have a device that monitors your blood sugar and warns if you are in danger of blacking out. A company called Medtronic has created a dashboard-mounted device that works in conjunction with a glucose monitor to track the driver's blood sugar levels. It is aimed at diabetics, mostly Type 1, whose blood sugar levels fall unusually quickly, resulting in dizziness, confusion, possible seizures or worse. Doctors often say that driving with low blood sugar can be even more dangerous than driving drunk. This makes the device an even more coveted item than the on board navigation that a diabetic may have.
The monitor uses a wireless sensor that samples the driver's blood glucose level every few minutes, and if it drops below an acceptable level, the dashboard unit notifies the driver with an audible warning.
