Mathmos’ new Fireflow lava lamps with tea light candles

Fireflow_lava_lamps.jpg Remember the lava lamps that will make you gape at for hours at length seeing all the gooey bubbles go up and down mesmerizing the observer? That was invented around 45 years ago by London-based company Mathmos. Those used to be run on electricity. Now, however, they have wisened and have come up with two new ranges that will not need electricity. The new Fireflow lava lamps just use the heat of a simple tea light candle. Two versions will be out – the Fireflow R1 and Fireflow O1. The former is shaped in the form of a rocket and the candle can be place at the base to see all the gooey stuff going around. The O1 has a mouth-blown glass lava container several inches above the candle. This is a more modern looking design.

They both come in very futuristic and fluorescent colours as well as pretty simple and subtle. By this fall, if we are lucky, the R1 will be available for $49 and the O1 for $60. Yay!
