Magic Rearview mirror from Mazda

mirroe111.jpgThe Back Up Camera With Auto-Dimming Mirror Display System For CX-9 Crossover SUV is a feature that most car drivers would want. Using this state-of-the-art rearview mirror-mounted liquid crystal display system, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has become the first car company in North America to give SUV owners the ability to literally see what’s there behind the car without ever turning back. I’m sure people with stiff necks and back problems are going to pounce on this feature and install it in their cars! When the gear is shifted into reverse, an LCD screen automatically appears within the mirror, “showing a real-time panoramic view of the area at the rear of the vehicle”. Normally the display remains hidden due to special "transflective" coatings and lighting technology.

The Back Up Camera with Auto-Dimming Mirror Display installed in Mazda SUV will start at $665 and be available early this summer.

Doesn't seem like they are the first company "to give SUV owners the ability to literally see what’s there behind the car without ever turning back". I mean since the mirror itself does that. Sad that the only way to get US drivers to look behind their vehicles when backing up, is to put a tv in the mirror. - mw -
