LG 5500 the first HD LCD TVs to support MPEG-4 AVC
I often wonder about the number of devices one needs to make a new age entertainment system work. First, you get the Flat screen TV then put it on the wall and you have cleared out all the junk you had to deal with CRT TVs. However if you look at it this way then with the coming of Digital TV and the HD decoder added to the digital nuisance we have to deal with. I mean did you count the number of remotes you had when the humble TV was around and now with DVB-Ts, DVD players, Audio systems. I have trouble thinking of the amount of energy wasted when the DVBs are turned off while the TVs are left on. Well LG wants us to integrate multiple devices into its new line of 42-inch LCDs. It has managed to put an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) HD integrated into its new line of LCD TVs known simply as the LG5500.
The LG5500 is just the 42-inch screen version, there are more models in the offering too like the 32-inch full HD 'LG5900, LG7500 (32-, 37-, 42-, 47-, 52-inch), LG3500 (32-, 37-, 42-inch), PG6500 (42-, 50-inch) and PG4500 (50-inch). Expected to launch by the second half of this year.
