LCD's to cost more in the European Union

Living in the EU ? Be prepared to shell out extra moolah as the EU is planning on imposing a hefty 14% import duty on LCD screens. With LG only manufacturing some units in Wales a majority of LCD's are imported. Last year Netherlands was the first EU member state to impose a 14 per cent tax on DVI screens as a result of a EU directive signed in 2004. Imports shifted largely to Germany, which still allows zero duty imports. Eventually the Dutch State Secretary of Finance intervened and decided that LCD monitors classified solely as a computer monitor would not have to be taxed. However this is going to change in all the EU member states as any LCD larger than 19 inch and which can be used to watch television may be taxed.

This may spell trouble for Media Center PC's which mostly use a large monitor. Via - TheRegister
