JVC Japan has announced the SP-A130 a sliding speaker. The portable active speakers are 30mm wide and deliver stereo output upto 160mW×2ch. The case has a sliding mechanism which protects the speakers from dust etc. The unit is powered by 4 x AA batteries which provide 16 hours of continuos usage. In addition to this the speaker has a passive mode too in which it draws power from the source. The speakers will be available in a variety of colors in Japan from mid October for 3000 Yen ($ 33).
