iTunes may get Taxed in California

iTunes.jpg Going by the reports, Orange County Register says that they are facing an $8-billion deficit. To make up the difference, California legislature is contemplating levying sales tax on iTunes Store purchases. Until now, the state has levied such tax only to "tangible" goods that can be "seen, weighed, measured, felt or touched." You could make Assemblyman Charles Calderon, D-Whittier, (who introduced Assembly Bill 1956) your punching bag; the Bill applies sales taxes to media download. For arguments' sake, should such a tax come in to force then, a 99-cent song on iTunes will cost California residents $1.07 (or more).
