Interactive paper plays sound is tons of fun

interactive%20paper.jpgCool new inventions are always welcome. Take the case of this exciting new interactive paper made by Scientists from Mid Sweden University. The paper can produce sounds when one touches specific parts of the paper. Of course the songs/dialogues or any other audio have to be preloaded. But the key ingredient to the success of this paper is a special kind of ink that contains conductive silver particles that allows an electric current to flow sans bulky wires. There are three layers to this 1-inch thick interactive paper. The front layer hosts the text and images that viewers see and touch, a middle layer with conductive ink that is connected to a power supply, and a back layer of thick cardboard material. Imagine the potential that this paper has, I can picture billboards with this technology mushrooming all over the place and kids freaking out over the noises created! Here Spiderman… take a POW!

Quite similar to a touchpad, the paper responds to the touch of a person and produces the corresponding sounds. The small cavities inside the paper act as speakers to amplify the sound. The conductive ink is used to print electromagnets, which vibrate in response to different current flows, producing sound. So when you apply pressure to the conductive ink on the second layer, the pressure alters the current flow, and speakers produce a sound.
