i-mate releases Centurion – a credit-card sized smartphone and Warrior – a laptop shell at MWC

i-mate_Centurion.jpg i-mate at the Mobile World Congress has shown off a credit-card sized smartphone, named as the Centurion, after the high-end American Express card of the same name. The company is also showing the Warrior laptop shell that will allow a contained smartphone to remotely access PCs and Macs. A touch-screen handset known as the Legionnaire would fit into the laptop shell and provide its processing power and also as a touchpad. Both the Centurion and Legionnaire will have HSDA connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and microSDHC card slot. Windows Mobile 6.5 is expected to be the operating system.

The Centurion comes with a 2-megapixel camera but at the cost of Wi-Fi connection. The Legionnaire will be having an 800 MHz chip to give it a notebook like performance. The Warrior shell will have a 10-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio screen and an SD card reader instead of a hard drive to keep its projected price down to about $200. The launch is expected at the end of summer in UK. The Centurion Smartphone is also expected to be released at summertime in the UK with approximate price of $550 without a contract.
