IE Mobile 6 coming to the Samsung Omnia in China

Samsung Omnia.JPG Several browsers have surpassed Pocket Internet Explorer to become the mobile browser of choice, including Opera Mini, Skyfire that even handles video streaming Flash sites such as Youtube. The new Pocket Internet Explorer 6 will first be available in China - on the Samsung Omnia. China Mobile was chosen as the first operator to get mobile IE6 because the software giant hopes to tap the vast growth in the number of new mobile users in the country. Microsoft last week released emulator images for IE6 for Windows Mobile phones on its Web site, touting the mobile browser as its first "full-fledged" mobile browser capable of rendering richer content. This decision has received some serious critiques over the last week. IE6 for the desktop was released in 2001, and the current release is version 8 beta 2.

China Mobile is carrying a customized version of the Omnia running on Windows Mobile. It is a little too late for Microsoft to be entering into the mobile arena, but let’s just hope things move upwards.
