The new mid-range smartphone being worked on at HTC will have "some advanced features" combined with simple designing. According to an FCC filing, the S640, aka the Iris, will feature a 2.4-inch LCD similar to the Dash, but sans a touchscreen and it weighs 802.11g. Wi-Fi and a stand-alone GPS receiver for routefinding without requiring a subscription service will also be featured. Other specs involved are a 2-megapixel camera, a direct mini-USB connection for sideloading data, and mobile broadband over EVDO.

It is also speculated that like most new HTC phones, the Iris should come preloaded with Windows Mobile 6. There is no mention of release date, but insiders feel that it could come out by the end of this year to CDMA-based networks such as Sprint and Verizon.
