HP has confirmed the launch of two new netbook computers the HP Mini 1000, and the Compaq Mini 700 along with a top of the line special edition series called Vivienne Tam Edition. The Mini 700, will sport a 10.2-inch WSVGA Display with flush glass panel (1024 x 600, 16:10 ratio), be powered by the Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor and come with a 60GB hard drive or the option of an 8GB or 16GB Solid State Drive. Other features include a webcam, Wireless, Bluetooth connectivity, and optional WWAN, a SD card slot. The netbook will feature a 92% full-sized keyboard, touchpad with scroll function, left and right clicks. It will weigh just over 1KG. The HP Mini 1000 currently only has a 3-cell battery, but a 6-cell option is coming. Some key differences that we noted are the loss of the ExpressCard slot, limit of 60GB hard drive, and no VGA port. The Intel Atom processor and Windows XP are in use instead of the Via processor and Vista, which makes the netbook rather appealing. There is a new Mobile Internet Experience (MIE) function in the Linux model that looks quite functional for consumers.
The XP version is available for $399, with a 10.2-inch version costing just a little bit more. The Vivienne Tam Edition, which is the high-end version, will go for $699 in mid-December, and the MIE version will land in January for a mere $379.
