Honda’s Puyo glows, is soft won’t dent in a crash

Words like soft, glow and cushy seem apt for things like stuffed toys; you don’t associate it with cars. But Honda thinks otherwise, it’s concept car Puyo has no sharp edges and is covered in soft silicone (same material used for some mousepads or iPod covers) so it can absorb the force of light collisions. The car made its presence felt at the Tokyo Motor Show on Wednesday. Puyo describes a soft, spongy texture in Japanese and suits the temperament of this car well. It is driven with a joystick, and it glows in different colors, depending on whether it is running or standing still. Described as “cute rather than cool” by the Honda guys, we think it’s a neat car for reasons other than its looks. Puyo is an environmentally friendly fuel-cell vehicle, creating electricity from hydrogen fuel and oxygen and emitting only water.
Honda’s Puyo is not likely to be on the market until around 2020, but this car gives us an insight as to what we can expect from the company in the future.
