Hitachi brings out finger vein identification technology

finger_vein1.jpg Talk about heights in biometrics! Hitachi has announced the development of a biometric cardless credit payment system called the finger vein money which will allow shoppers to pay for purchases using only their fingertips. What is so cool about this technology! You will be surprised! The technology verifies a person’s identity by reading the pattern of blood vessels in the fingers which are as individual as fingerprints but are very difficult to duplicate. Customers will have to register their vein data with the card company and when they want to pay for something all they have to do is place their finger in a vein reader which uses infrared LEDs and also a special camera to capture the detailed image of their vein structure. Hitachi is planning to test the technology for 3 months where 200 of their employees will be volunteers. One good thing is that you don’t have to carry your credit cards around. But then you will have to be very careful that your fingers are not chopped off and taken away.
