GreenPix second Great Wall of China

If you thought that Beijing Olympics was a grand spectacle like never before and that the Birds Nest along with the Watercube were the best of Chinese architecture well you're surely in for a surprise. China built a new great wall to amaze the world one more time. Firstly it was the largest color LED display worldwide, then it was self sufficient and the third is its interactivity. The 20,000 square foot screen makes it the largest display. The GreenPix also has the added design edge by not needing to pay any power bills for the electricity it consumes. It simply uses a photovoltaic system integrated into a glass curtain wall during the day to keep it powered in the night. The timing of the Olympics could have hampered it from being truly interactive; Govt. officials would not have tolerated YouTube videos being played on the wall. However, later on this display will be used to show digital artworks by various artists since they better understand the programming limitations of the display system. Being China we can expect it to have a official monitoring the content before its put up.

Simone Giostra along with design and engineering firm Arup developed the Green Pix wall. China established its green standing when its efforts were appreciated and called "even better than the 2004 Athens Olympics" according to the Greenpeace Olympics Assessment report after it chose to add four new rail lines to the city and go green.
