Google prepping up Android-based Heads-Up Displays
Reports are pouring in that Google is prepping up new Android-based smart glasses with a heads-up display which might hit shelves later this year. The New York Times recently cited that Google employees familiar with the project said that the glasses will belong to same price bracket as of current smartphones so one can safely assume about $300 price tag. The Android eye-wear will include a small screen which will be positioned just a few inches from the user’s eyes. It will reportedly sport a cellular data connection and range of sensors like motion and GPS.
It is also believed that a low-resolution built-in camera here would provide an augmented reality view of the world by overlaying information. Since privacy issues could creep in, Google is looking to provide a way for others to know if they are being recorded by a user wearing the glasses. These will also tap into a range of their existing software products like Latitude, Goggles and Maps. Google has presently remained shy about any details at the moment but we hope they change their stand soon.
