Google phone spotted and launching in 15 days
A popular Indian newspaper is reporting that the much awaited GPhone is only a fortnight away from a global launch and the search engine major has already started talks with service providers in India for an exclusive launch on one of their networks. A simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. The paper reports Google plans to invest a staggering $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray. In India, it is also believed to be in talks with providers to offer data and content and platforms including Instant Messaging (IM) and Search functions. Google is reported to be in talks with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and state owned BSNL which are one of the biggest cellular operators in the country.
Reports of Google developing a phone have been doing rounds on the Internet since quite some time. But as always Google has refused to comment on speculation and rumours. If at all these rumours were to be true then the Google phone will be an entry level phone probably in the $100 - $200 range as only then it will be appealing to India's masses. Contrary to the rumours none of these carriers have plans which include cell phones like in the US.
