Glucoboy rewards diligent (diabetic) children with GBA games

Glucoboy.jpg Taking a poke for testing your diabetes on a daily basis can be quite cumbersome, if as an adult we find it difficult to cope, I can imagine the plight of kids. However being a kid has its fringes, like getting a blood glucose meter specially developed for kids that rewards them for their diligence. It took inventor Paul Wessel, about 3 years to get approval from Nintendo, but finally the device comes loaded with 2 full length video games and a mini-arcade. To access the video games, the Glucoboy must be inserted into the cartridge slot on a Nintendo Game Boy Advance System, or into the Game Boy cartridge slot on a Nintendo DS. The blood glucose test results are converted into Glucose Reward Points (GRPs) that can be used to unlock games, or converted to in game currency. For example, in the included Knock 'Em Downs game, GRPs can be converted into tokens. In the game, tokens can be spent to buy goodies online.

The Glucoboy is available in Australia for about $260, but there are plans to eventually make it available worldwide.
