Experts believe that the time has come when the gaming industry can teach the military a trick or two. The hardware in Xbox controllers can be used for flying UAVs, next-gen interfaces for unknown battlefields and, Wiimotes for basic training. To cite an example, the new Lightweight Stabilized M240 Weapon System, a swiveling rooftop gun mount for Humvees is completely computer-controlled from inside the cockpit using dual joysticks and a large resistive touchscreen display. Sounds familiar? Popular Mechanics had the opportunity to visit the Fleet Week on the Hudson River, and discovered that over the ages, instead of games simulating military action (Atari 2600 joystick or the "Duck Hunt" pistol); now the military is using equipment that evolved in the gaming industry. It was interesting to note that many of the actions that we gamers find second nature are being taught to the military personnel readying for some heavy-duty combat.
